Nubia’s land was full of natural resources. Egypt claimed the trade routes in Northern Nubia, and then annexed the land. Later, the Nubians began to drive the Egyptians out of Nubia. Then the captured Nubian land again.

New Kingdoms of Kush
Kush Conquers Egypt
By 800 B.C., the kingdom of Kush regained their strength. They build capital Napata, where is free from Egypt. In 780 B.C., Alrara, a Nubian chieftain started new dynasty, which now is called the kingdom of Napata. In about 750 B.C., Kush captured weakened upper Egypt. Alara’s nephew, Piye, conquered weakened Lower Egypt. All Egypt was under control of Kushites then. Dynasty 25 of Egypt was ruled by the Kushites. During that time, Egypt developed, that the pharaohs rebuilt the temples that were destroyed.
A New Beginning
ASsyrians invaded egypt, kushites rule of egypt ended. Assyrians also invaded kush and conquered napata. Assyrians' iron making skill passed on the Kushites too. 591, Kushite leaders moved capital to Meroe, near 6th cataract.
The City of Monroe
Caravans made further trade routes. To keep track of trade, first written language of Kush was used. There were 23 symbols in meroitic alphabet, and now, sounds of the alphabets are known, but no one knows the meaning. Trade succeeded, and the city grew and became wealthy. Rulers of Monroe had great power, that queen was the rule passed to, not kings. Different from most other civilizations, many queens ruled Meroe.

At 200 B.C., Egypt built ports, and traders started to use sea routes, and so as a result, Monroe lost his power, importance, and wealth. Axum, African kingdom, now Ethiopia, began making raids on Kushite towns, and at A.D. 350, Axum defeated Kushites. By the end of the 4th century, Kush had fallen.
